Growing up I would have never thought that I would own any type of sports organization, It was
never even a goal of mine. I loved the game of football, I loved playing all sports from
baseball,basketball,football, and even soccer. It kept me out of trouble, helped me make friends,
but most of all I felt like I had another family. My household was not the best place to be to say
the least, so sports was a positive outlet for me. I wish I had made better choices in my life so I
could have gone further with sports and to this day I regret it! But as a young kid growing up in a
not so good environment and not having a positive role model, no structure, no outlet from
negativity, no friends and very little family, sports became my outlet, my joy, my happiness, my
stress reliever, it saved me in a lot of ways. I was blessed with sports and football became my
favorite of all!
After having kids at the age of 18 I knew that sports was gonna be mandatory for my children. I
wanted my kids to experience what I was blessed to experience. I knew that this would give my
kids something to work for, I knew that it would teach them structure,discipline,teamwork and
give them a positive environment to be in.
One of my sons played there senior year and two of my sons played there jr year then covid!
Football was canceled! My sons were devastated! They really wanted the chance to all play
together on the varsity team and that was no longer going to be possible. Not only that but a lot
of athletes including my kids, didn't get scholarships. Football was over for a lot of students. So
that year After covid, and my kids were done with high school, we wanted to find a
football team to join. We went to a teams football practice hoping my son would make the team
but by the end of the practice I knew this was not the team for my son! Coaches were calling
players foul names and cursing at them. It felt more like a punishment than a team. When I
started looking for another team for my son I found out that Tucson only had 4 semi pro teams. I
looked into starting my own team. I brought my wife, my 4 boys and my 2 daughters all together
and asked what they thought about starting a football team as a family. This was a chance for
my sons to all play together like they wanted to and they were all in! My wife said she would
love it, under one condition, God is the owner! Of course we agreed and that was that. My wife
started to put a cheer team together with family members starting with my oldest daughter and
our niece. My four boys were the first players on the team then joined by their cousin. It was the
beginning of our FAMILY football team. When we were trying to find the right name for our
organization we looked at all the players we were getting and they all knew my sons they were
bringing their brothers and cousins to play with us my daughters friends were on the cheer team
we all knew each other one way or another and i thought ‘FAMILY TIES’ its perfect!! That is
how Family ties started. We coach with Love, speak with respect, and most of all we give our
team to GOD! We are not just a team to play for, we are a second home! We are a FAMILY!
I am blessed to be the founder of Tucson Family Ties and my goal is to bless all athletes of
all ages with an opportunity to play a sport that they love and become apart of the family.
